Nigeria will receive €288 million from the European Union to support healthcare, agriculture, finance, migration, and digital infrastructure, aimed at driving sustainable development and reform. The announcement was made at an EU-Nigeria Ministerial press briefing in Abuja under the EU-Nigeria Partnership.
Director-General for International Partnerships at the European Commission, Stefano Signore, said the funding is part of the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy.
“Health and agriculture stand out as they join forces to improve standards, infrastructure, local manufacturing and inclusion. We are also committing to stronger cooperation on sustainable migration by providing better life options to returnee migrants”, he said.
Representing the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Anite-Uzoka emphasised the partnership reflects an investment-driven, results-oriented framework.
She noted that Nigeria, under President Bola Tinubu, is implementing reforms to stabilise the economy, improve revenue mobilisation, enhance fiscal transparency, and strengthen the foreign exchange market.
The €288 million package includes €23 million for digital public infrastructure, €108 million in grants and loans to the government, €50 million for healthcare manufacturing via the Bank of Industry, €85 million to support agri-business value chains, €5 million for sector training, €1 million for a climate-agriculture twinning project, and €16 million to strengthen migration governance.
Signore said the investment is not just financial support but also a way to build local capacity, drive innovation, and ensure inclusive growth.
