Nigerian actress Etinosa Idemudia has disclosed that fellow Nollywood star Mercy Johnson played a key role in helping her secure protection after she allegedly received death threats from her former husband.
Etinosa made the revelation during a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she spoke candidly about the aftermath of an interview in which she accused her ex-husband of domestic abuse.
According to the actress, the threats began after comments she made during a promotional interview for the film Stormy Heart. She said she spoke openly about a past relationship that almost cost her life, without realising the media outlet would focus heavily on her marriage rather than the film.
Etinosa explained that the interview sparked intense backlash and led to direct threats from her former husband, who accused her of trying to damage his career and pressured her to publicly retract her statements.
As the situation escalated, she said she took to Instagram to seek help. While several people reached out, Etinosa highlighted Mercy Johnson’s intervention as pivotal. She noted that Johnson, whom she described as having strong military connections, offered to escalate the matter to the appropriate authorities.
Etinosa said the case was forwarded to the office of the Chief of Naval Staff, after which officials from Abuja reportedly contacted her and assured her that the matter was being handled. According to the actress, the intervention brought an end to the threats.
Journalists report that Etinosa was first married to Babatunde Solomon, a military officer. The marriage ended between 2017 and 2018. She later married Benin-based lawyer Ighorosa, with whom she has a child, before their union ended in 2021.
The actress’ account has reignited conversations online about domestic abuse, media responsibility, and the importance of support systems within the entertainment industry.
