Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has spoken out against what she describes as discriminatory practices targeting women who visit nightlife venues alone.
In a recent post on Instagram, the actress recounted multiple instances where she was refused entry into clubs, bars, and hotels because she was unaccompanied by a male partner. She said the experience persisted despite her willingness to pay like other customers.
Idemudia argued that such policies unfairly single out women, noting that men are typically granted access without similar scrutiny. She questioned the rationale behind the restrictions and criticised the assumptions often made about women who choose to socialise alone.
According to her, being unaccompanied should not automatically lead to suspicions of involvement in illicit or transactional activities. She described the stereotype as harmful and rooted in outdated social attitudes.
The actress also reflected on her personal experiences, revealing that some of the incidents occurred during a difficult period in her marriage when she would go out alone to unwind. She said the pattern continued after she relocated to Lagos to pursue her acting career.
Calling for collective action, Idemudia urged feminists and advocates to challenge what she views as a long-standing double standard in nightlife culture. She maintained that women should have the same freedom as men to access public social spaces without judgment or restriction.
