Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly negotiating a possible return to Ajax, according to Dutch outlet AD. The coach has been without a managerial role since his dismissal by Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season.
Despite being linked with a Premier League comeback through the vacancy at Wolves, Ten Hag appears more inclined toward a homecoming in Amsterdam. The Wolves opportunity was never a strong option for him, especially with the club rooted to the bottom of the table after 10 matches.
Ten Hag has already met with Ajax officials to discuss taking over the managerial position following Thursday’s dismissal of John Heitinga. Ajax, who are currently fourth in the Eredivisie, suffered a heavy 3–0 home defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League — a result that ultimately sealed Heitinga’s fate.
The 55-year-old previously enjoyed a highly successful spell at Ajax between January 2018 and May 2022, winning three Eredivisie titles, two domestic cups, and guiding the team to the Champions League semi-finals while achieving an impressive 73 percent win rate. His potential return is expected to spark major interest across European football circles.
