Nigerian rapper Erigga has voiced strong disapproval of polygamy, describing it as a harmful practice that often leaves women and children emotionally wounded.
Speaking in a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the rapper drew from personal experience, revealing that his views stem from growing up in a polygamous household.
According to him, polygamous unions tend to create conflict and resentment, with women and children bearing the brunt of emotional pain.
“I am trying not to be like my father. I don’t like polygamy; one person gets hurt, which is the woman,” Erigga said. “There’s never a polygamous situation where the man gets hurt; it’s always the woman and the kids.”
The Motivation crooner noted that while men may enter such arrangements seeking satisfaction or status, the emotional and psychological toll on families can be long-lasting.
He urged men to avoid the complications that come with multiple marriages and instead embrace monogamy, which he believes fosters peace, love, and stability.
“Monogamy is less complicated and more fulfilling for everyone involved,” he emphasized.
Erigga’s remarks add to the growing public conversation around marriage structures in Nigeria, where polygamy remains culturally accepted in some regions but is increasingly debated among younger generations.
