Turmoil at Stamford Bridge has prompted Argentine maestro Enzo Fernandez to seek a departure to Paris Saint-Germain. The midfielder’s decision follows Chelsea’s abrupt dismissal of manager Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day.
According to reports from L’Equipe, the appointment of former Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior as Maresca’s successor triggered significant unrest for the 24-year-old. This latest managerial pivot apparently served as the final straw for the player after a series of disagreements between the previous coaching staff and club executives.
Fernandez arrived in West London from Benfica for a British-record £105 million in January 2023. Despite joining during a period of institutional instability, he solidified his role as the cornerstone of the Chelsea project. However, the constant turnover at the helm has weighed heavily on the playmaker. Since his arrival 36 months ago, Fernandez has played under seven different managers. This lack of continuity now drives his desire for a more predictable environment at the Parc des Princes.
The French giants represent an attractive destination for Fernandez after their recent continental success. PSG secured the UEFA Champions League title during the 2024-25 campaign, though they later fell to Maresca’s Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final. Fernandez played a pivotal role in that victory and now appears prepared to transition to the French capital this summer. If the deal concludes, he will bolster a world-class midfield roster that already features stars like Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, and João Neves.
