Nollywood actor Emeka Emeneks has sparked debate online after questioning the motives of some participants in the popular Christian worship event, the Hallelujah Challenge.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Emeneks said many people join the nightly praise sessions not out of genuine devotion, but merely to seek miracles and blessings.
“Some of you are just miracle chasers and genuinely not seeking the face of God,” he wrote. “God that loved you when you were wallowing in sin and sent His Son to die for you, will punish you because you left Hallelujah Challenge early because of work or missed just one day? Lmaoo you people should please naa.”
The actor’s remarks have since stirred mixed reactions across social media. While some users agreed with his stance, arguing that many Nigerians treat faith as transactional, others accused him of being judgmental and dismissive of individual faith experiences.
The Hallelujah Challenge, an online worship movement initiated by gospel artist Nathaniel Bassey, first went viral in 2017 and has since drawn thousands of participants worldwide each year.
Despite the backlash, Emeneks’ post has reignited conversations around faith sincerity and religious performance in Nigeria’s social media-driven spiritual landscape.
