Strasbourg forward Emanuel Emegha has officially become ineligible to represent Nigeria after earning his first competitive cap for the Netherlands.
The 22-year-old striker, who is set to join Chelsea next summer, made his senior competitive debut for the Dutch national team on Friday night in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Poland in Warsaw. Emegha was introduced in the 87th minute, wearing the No. 9 jersey, as the Netherlands pushed for all three points.
His appearance in the World Cup qualifying fixture automatically ties him to the Netherlands under FIFA rules, ending any hope of a future switch to the Super Eagles.
Emegha, born to a Nigerian mother, had previously been approached by the Nigeria Football Federation, but the Strasbourg captain made it clear he intended to pursue his international career with the Dutch team.
With the competitive cap now sealed, the promising forward will continue his progression with the Oranje as he prepares for his move to Premier League giants Chelsea next summer.
