Elsie Okpocha, the former wife of comedian Basketmouth, has issued a legal warning over claims linking her failed marriage to alleged paternity fraud.
The estranged couple, who married in November 2010, officially separated in December 2022 after over a decade together. Basketmouth had announced the split via Instagram at the time, describing it as a mutual decision reached after careful consideration.
However, controversy resurfaced recently following reports circulated by blogs suggesting that a DNA test involving their first child played a role in the breakdown of the marriage.
Responding to the claims, Elsie Okpocha, through her legal representatives at Primeview Legal, firmly denied the allegations, describing them as false and baseless.
In a statement shared on her Instagram page, she cautioned individuals and media platforms against publishing or amplifying such reports, warning that legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable of defamation or invasion of privacy.
She also raised concerns about the potential impact of the rumours on her child, noting that misinformation could expose him to bullying both online and offline.
According to the statement, such narratives risk causing emotional and psychological harm, particularly if members of the public accept the claims as factual.
Elsie Okpocha’s response underscores growing concerns among public figures about the spread of unverified information on social media and its real-life consequences.
