Elon Musk has dismissed claims that xAI’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, has generated illegal images involving minors, saying he is not aware of any such content ever being produced.
In a post on X on Wednesday, the tech billionaire responded directly to allegations circulating online about Grok’s image generation capabilities.
“I (am) not aware of any naked underage images generated by Grok. Literally zero.” Musk wrote.
He stressed that Grok does not independently create images without user input, adding: “Obviously, Grok does not spontaneously generate images, it does so only according to user requests.”
Musk further said the system is designed to comply strictly with legal requirements across jurisdictions whenever users request images.
“When asked to generate images, it will refuse to produce anything illegal, as the operating principle for Grok is to obey the laws of any given country or state.” he said.
Acknowledging the possibility of misuse, Musk noted that attempts to manipulate the system could occasionally trigger unintended outcomes, but insisted such issues are swiftly addressed.
“There may be times when adversarial hacking of Grok prompts does something unexpected. If that happens, we fix the bug immediately.”
Grok is developed by Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI and is integrated into X, formerly known as Twitter. The platform has faced increased scrutiny over content moderation and the safeguards governing generative artificial intelligence tools.
