The Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has suspended its planned strike after the intervention of Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu.
In an emergency meeting convened Thursday in Abuja, the NUEE, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), National Independent System Operator (NISO), and labour ministry representatives reached a truce, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
According to the MoU, TCN and NISO will “evaluate the financial implication of the report and prepare an implementation plan to be discussed with the minister and the unions.” The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) was also tasked with expediting tariff reviews to support the process.
The unions further secured assurances that “no employee would be victimised for participating in the action.” As a result, the NUEE agreed to suspend its strike directive to allow the resolutions to take effect.
The report under contention is scheduled for review on October 6 and 7, with possible implementation later in the month.
