Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical director Augustine Eguavoen has stressed that the Super Eagles cannot afford to lose when they face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in a crucial World Cup qualifying tie.
The Super Eagles head into the clash after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Rwanda’s Amavubi in Uyo last Saturday. Despite that result, Eric Chelle’s men remain six points behind group leaders South Africa on the Group C standings.
Victory in Bloemfontein would see Nigeria trim that deficit to just three points, boosting their hopes of advancing to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
Eguavoen admitted that the South Africans deserve respect but was clear about Nigeria’s mission in the encounter.
“Of course it’s a massive game, we have no choice, Nigeria has no choice. We respect South Africa, but we are gunning for three points, simple as that,” he told FARPOST.
The match is scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening at the Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein, with kick-off set for 6pm local time (5pm Nigerian time).
