The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has firmly rejected allegations of corruption, insisting that he has never taken bribes or benefited from illicit activities at any point in his public service career.
Speaking during a televised interview, Olukoyede said he has maintained a clean record while serving in various roles, including as Chief of Staff, Secretary of the commission and now as EFCC Chairman. He stressed that he has never engaged in fraudulent practices or allowed personal gain to influence his official duties.
The EFCC boss challenged anyone with proof of wrongdoing to make it public, declaring that he has never accepted money or gifts in exchange for favourable decisions. According to him, even minor inducements were never tolerated during his time in office.
Addressing questions about his handling of seized assets while serving as EFCC Secretary, Olukoyede said he never benefited personally from assets recovered by the commission. He maintained that no property or financial gains could be traced to him or members of his family.
Responding to claims of unexplained wealth, Olukoyede said he was unaware of the basis for such allegations and invited authorities to investigate his finances. He added that he does not consider himself wealthy and has lived within his legitimate earnings.
He also confirmed that he has consistently complied with Nigeria’s asset declaration requirements, stating that he declared his assets at every stage of his career and required his staff to do the same.
Reiterating his position, Olukoyede urged anyone who had ever offered or paid him a bribe to come forward with evidence, adding that he remains committed to integrity, transparency and the anti-corruption mandate of the EFCC.
