The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the Coordinator of Amasiri Development Centre in Afikpo, Anya Baron-Ogbonnia, and two traditional rulers over their alleged involvement in the killing of four people in Edda Local Government Area.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed that the arrests followed a joint operation involving the Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Ukandu said the two traditional rulers, Onyaidam Bassey and Godfrey Oko-Obia from Amasiri in Afikpo LGA, are also in custody. He added that ten people had been previously arrested in connection with the incident.
The attack on Okporojor village occurred on January 29, 2026, amid a long-standing land dispute between the people of Okporojor in Oso Edda community and their Amasiri neighbours. Suspected warlords from Amasiri beheaded four residents, set houses ablaze, and destroyed other valuable property during the raid.
Authorities have assured that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be prosecuted according to the law.
