Legendary juju musician Ebenezer Obey has announced plans to mark his 84th birthday with a two-day Christian crusade in Abeokuta.
The event, scheduled for March 25 and 26, 2026, will take place from 4pm to 7pm daily and is themed “Thy Kingdom Come.” It is being organised in collaboration with the Methodist Church Nigeria through the Riye Council of Knights of the church’s Egba Diocese.
The programme will feature several gospel ministers, including Esther Igbekele, Joseph Adelakun and Adegbemi Adewale.
According to Obey, the event will also include outreach initiatives aimed at supporting underprivileged individuals as part of activities commemorating his birthday.
The veteran musician explained that his 84th birthday, which falls on April 3, coincides with the period of Good Friday and Easter celebrations this year. For that reason, he chose to keep the festivities modest and spiritually focused.
Obey also expressed appreciation for the continued support he receives from fans, friends and associates both in Nigeria and abroad. He noted that he looks forward to marking an even bigger milestone next year.
The music icon, widely known as the “Chief Commander,” remains one of the pioneers of modern juju music in Nigeria. Since the 1960s, he has produced numerous classic songs known for their blend of Yoruba proverbs, social commentary and rich instrumentation.
In recent years, the octogenarian has consistently celebrated his birthdays with thanksgiving services, gospel concerts and charitable activities, reflecting his strong Christian faith and commitment to community service.
