Tensions are already boiling within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Borno State, barely two years to the 2027 general elections, as the party’s leadership has openly disowned a parallel structure allegedly created by one of its chieftains, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam.
The Borno State Chairman of the party, Umar Bolori, made the party’s position unequivocally clear during a press briefing in Maiduguri, insisting that the so-called Transitional and Membership Registration Committees recently unveiled by the Imam-led faction have no backing of the party.
It will be recalled that on Monday, January 12, 2026, a group loyal to the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, who also styles himself as the ADC leader in Borno, announced the inauguration of a Transitional Committee and a Membership Registration Committee.
The inauguration ceremony, which held at Barwee Hotels in Maiduguri, named Hon. Alhaji Ali Wurge as Chairman of the Borno State Transitional Committee, with Hon. Fali Wabulari appointed as Secretary.

According to the organizers, the move was aimed at strengthening the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Similarly, the ADC Membership Registration Committee was constituted with Hon. Peter Biye as Chairman and Hon. Kolo Bukar as Secretary.
Several notable politicians and stakeholders were also unveiled at the event, including Kashim Imam Matawalle of Borno, Hon. Dr. Nicolas Msheliza, former Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Bulama Fugu, Hon. Attom Magira, Alhaji Umar Alkali Nasco, Barrister Umara Kumalia and Hon. Tijjani Amadu Yarwama, among others.
However, in a swift and forceful reaction just hours after the event, the state chairman of the ADC, Umar Bolori, condemned the development, describing the committees as the handiwork of “political jobbers” bent on hijacking the party for personal ambition.
Bolori accused the faction of attempting to infiltrate and destabilize the ADC ahead of the 2027 polls, stressing that the party would not tolerate any parallel leadership or unauthorized structures.
He reaffirmed that the recognized leadership of the ADC in Borno State remains focused on building a formidable opposition capable of ending the long-standing dominance of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
