Head coach of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, Rena Wakama, has been named head coach of Hive BC for the 2025–26 season of the Unrivaled Basketball League in the United States.
The Unrivaled League, co-founded in 2023 by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, debuted in January 2025 with six teams and will expand to eight teams in its second season.
Wakama’s appointment was confirmed on the league’s official website on Thursday as part of its newly announced coaching lineup.
The 32-year-old tactician guided D’Tigress to back-to-back FIBA Women’s AfroBasket titles in 2023 and 2025 and led the team to a historic quarter-final finish at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
She will now take charge of one of the league’s two expansion franchises, with Unrivaled’s second season set to tip off in January 2026.
“Rena Wakama will lead Hive BC in the team’s Unrivaled debut, following her first season as an assistant coach for the Chicago Sky,” the statement read.
