The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a six-count charge against 27-year-old Innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume for allegedly advocating a military coup. The charge, filed on November 11 and marked FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025, was brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja by A. M. Danalami.
The DSS alleges that Onukwume, of Umusayo Layout, Oyigbo LGA, Rivers State, committed the offences in October 2025. The charges are said to contravene Sections 46A(1) and 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act and provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024 (as amended).
According to the court papers, some of the alleged offending posts were published from Onukwume’s verified X account (@theagroman). One count alleges that, with intent to cause fear and disturb public peace, he posted: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigeria government and join the AES. That is all we need now.” That conduct is said to be punishable under section 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act.
Other counts allege that on or about October 15, 2025, he posted messages intended to cause annoyance, danger, obstruction, or needless anxiety against the government. The statements quoted in the charge include:
- “It will happen eventually, Nigerian. The military needs your support now! Only them can save this country. The bastard in Aso Rock has basically sold this country to the West and they run our intelligence apparatus; only the military can reset this country.”
- “Tinubu has to go and APC has to die for Nigeria to have any semblance of normal life. And if you think your stupid, votes can remove Tinubu. I’m here to tell you that you’re a fool.”
- The earlier-cited call for a coup: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigeria Government and join the AES. That is all we need now.”
Those counts are brought under Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes Act (2024, as amended).
The DSS says Onukwume is expected to be arraigned before the end of the week.
