The Ogun State Police Command has taken into custody the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the accident that claimed two lives in Anthony Joshua’s entourage.
Oluseyi Babaseyi, police spokesperson, confirmed: “The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing.”
The incident occurred on Monday near the Sinoma area in Sagamu, Ogun State, as Joshua and three associates travelled from Lagos. The SUV collided with a stationary truck. While Joshua sustained minor injuries, his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, died.
Preliminary investigations by the Federal Road Safety Corps suggested excessive speed and wrongful overtaking contributed to the crash, though Ogun police cited a tyre burst as the cause.
Joshua was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, on Wednesday after treatment. Authorities continue to probe the incident to determine full responsibility for the tragic collision.
