The driver of the Lexus SUV carrying British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has been taken into police custody as investigations continue into the Ogun State crash that killed two of his companions.
The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Makun, Ogun State, when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck. Two of Joshua’s close associates, Latif “Latz” Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, both in their mid-30s, died instantly at the scene.
Joshua and other passengers survived, sustaining only minor injuries. He was treated at Duchess International Hospital, Lagos, and has since been discharged.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, confirmed that the driver, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who had been hospitalised after the crash, is now in custody to provide a detailed statement. Authorities are reviewing potential charges, including reckless driving and traffic violations.
Eyewitnesses and preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps suggest the Lexus was speeding and lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle.
Joshua had been visiting Nigeria after a recent bout in Miami against Jake Paul. He later visited the Lagos funeral home with his mother to pay respects to Ayodele and Ghami before their repatriation.
The police assured that investigations remain ongoing and that updates would be provided as the case progresses.
