Suspended member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Bernard Udemezue, who is representing Ayamelum State Constituency was yesterday rejected from the the Legislative Chambers, after he tried resuming after a three months suspension.
Udemezue was ejected from the chambers to stop him from participating in the budget presentation sitting at the assembly, shortly before the governor of the state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo came in to present the 2026 appropriation bill.
The lawmaker was suspended about four months ago for allegedly sharing some details of the earnings of members of the assembly in a social media platform, an act which the leadership of the house considered to be improper. He was suspended for three months.
Drama trailed his removal as he arrived the complex and moved straight into the legislative chambers and took his seat. However the Deputy Speaker, Mr Chukwuma Okoye, and the member representing Oyi State Constituency, Mr Innocent Ojike approached the suspended lawmaker in company of security personnel and whisked him out.
The House leadership also went upstairs to the gallery they that also ejected all supporters of the lawmaker who had accompanied him to the plenary.
THISDAY gathered that the reason was because the lawmaker did not follow due process after his three months suspension elapsed, before resuming. The lawmaker was said to have been kept at the new legislative building all through the sitting.
In defence, Mr Udemezue however told journalists that he followed due process and had submitted necessary letters for resumption to the appropriate authorities before his appearance.
