Media personality Do2dtun has urged social media users to stop targeting Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold, following online criticism linked to resurfaced old tweets from the singer’s wife, Simi.
The controversy has sparked intense debate across social media platforms, with some users directing harsh comments at the musician and his family.
Reacting to the situation on X (formerly Twitter), Do2dtun defended Adekunle Gold, highlighting the singer’s impact on the Nigerian music industry and calling for greater respect for his work.
According to the broadcaster, Adekunle Gold has consistently delivered quality music and memorable performances throughout his career.
He pointed to the artist’s catalogue of albums and his ability to draw large audiences, including a performance where the singer reportedly filled the National Theatre.
“I think it’s time for you guys to leave AG alone,” Do2dtun wrote.
He described Adekunle Gold as an exceptional performer whose craft has remained largely untouched by controversy, stressing that the artist’s achievements in music deserve recognition.
Do2dtun also expressed concern about what he described as disturbing comments directed at the singer and his family online.
He said the situation had moved beyond criticism and had turned into what he characterised as extreme bullying.
According to him, the public should learn to separate personal matters from an artist’s professional contributions.
The media personality added that respect for people’s work and life achievements should remain a priority in public discourse.
Despite the online backlash, Do2dtun maintained that Adekunle Gold remains one of the most influential musicians to emerge from Nigeria.
