Nigerian disc jockey DJ Neptune has raised concerns over the rapid rise of artificial intelligence in music creation, suggesting that the technology could soon replace human music producers.
His comments came in response to a post by media personality N6, who warned that AI is quietly disrupting the global music production and mastering industry.
N6 had written on X that AI is already producing “scary” results in music creation, expressing concern about its impact on the creative ecosystem.
Reacting, DJ Neptune shared a personal experience in which he mistook an AI-generated track for a song made by a human artist.
He explained that he was recently sent a record for review and was so impressed by its quality that he encouraged the sender to sign the supposed artist.
According to him, he later discovered that the track was created using artificial intelligence, a revelation that left him surprised.
The DJ said the incident highlighted how advanced AI tools have become in producing near-human-quality music, blurring the line between technology and artistry.
Artificial intelligence is increasingly being adopted across the music industry, with both emerging and established artists using it for beat production, sound design, and vocal enhancement.
In response to the growing trend, the Recording Academy has updated its eligibility rules to allow songs featuring AI-generated elements for Grammy consideration, provided they include substantial human contribution.
However, the development continues to spark debate, with critics arguing that heavy reliance on AI raises questions about originality, creativity, and artistic ownership in music.
