According to sources familiar with the case, Combs — convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution — specifically requested placement at the low-security facility. The move allows him to participate in Fort Dix’s drug treatment programme and remain closer to his family.
Combs, who has been in federal custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his September 2024 arrest, will have the 13 months he already spent detained credited toward his sentence. With additional credit from treatment participation, his projected release date is 8 May 2028, according to the US Bureau of Prisons.
His legal team is appealing both his conviction and sentence, seeking an expedited review by a federal appeals court. US President Donald Trump confirmed that Combs had requested a presidential pardon, though no decision has yet been made.
Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison that has previously housed celebrity inmates such as Real Housewives of New Jersey star Joe Giudice, offers modest amenities. Inmates can purchase items like rice cakes for $5.75, white tuna for $3.75, and Pop-Tarts for $2.85 at the commissary — though notably, no applesauce is listed, a snack one witness said Combs famously enjoyed on cheeseburgers.
Combs’ transfer marks the beginning of a new phase in the ongoing legal saga of the Grammy-winning artist and entrepreneur, whose case continues to draw national attention.
