The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has announced plans for its second Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference, scheduled for May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This year’s event will address the escalating threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a contemporary form of warfare that risks undermining international relations and disrupting trade and investment flows.
DICAN Chairman Idehai Frederick emphasized the importance of fostering collaborative truth to bolster global security and economic stability.
“A secure information environment is essential for strong trade and investment. Misinformation can deter foreign investors and destabilize local markets,” he stated.
The conference will gather diplomats, intelligence experts, media professionals, and business leaders in an effort to enhance cooperation among these sectors.
Key objectives include establishing international standards to counteract state-sponsored disinformation, improving strategies for detecting and responding to hybrid threats, and promoting accurate reporting to protect national and economic interests.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who serves as DICAN’s Grand Patron, will deliver the keynote address.
He will be accompanied by prominent figures, including Gautier Mignot, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, along with security experts, regulators, and leaders from the private sector.
This conference builds on the success of DICAN’s inaugural international conference held in July 2025, which attracted over 60 diplomatic missions, civil society organizations, and academic institutions.
With this summit, DICAN aims to unite key stakeholders in the fight against the weaponization of misinformation, ensuring that Nigeria remains a safe and appealing destination for investment.
