The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has appealed for greater public support in the fight against banditry in Nigeria’s North-West, reaffirming the military’s resolve to crush insecurity across the country.
General Musa made the call during a courtesy visit to the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, where he was represented by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau.
Brigadier General Gusau stressed that effective collaboration—particularly with the media and local communities—is critical to ending banditry.
“The military aims to strengthen its partnership with the media on security matters,” he noted.
He also expressed concern over reports that some communities allegedly aid bandits by supplying food, motorcycles, and shelter, while others rely on protection from security agencies.
Calling on youths and community leaders to provide credible intelligence, he urged citizens of the North-West to work hand-in-hand with the armed forces to restore peace.
“Everyone has a role to play in promoting peace and stability. The support of the public is vital to the success of military operations,” he added.
Responding, Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed, urged the military to intensify efforts in sensitising traditional rulers about the dangers of harbouring criminals.
He reaffirmed the Kebbi State Government’s unwavering support for security agencies, stressing that the state remains one of the regions most affected by banditry in the North-West.
