The enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy by the Nigeria Police Force has been suspended nationwide following a court order.
A Delta State High Court sitting in Orerokpe, in an ex-parte ruling delivered by Justice Joe Egwu, restrained the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, from implementing or resuming enforcement of the policy pending the determination of a substantive suit.
The court also barred the police and their officers from stopping, harassing, arresting, detaining or extorting motorists and other citizens under the guise of enforcing the tinted glass permit policy.
In addition, Justice Egwu restrained the IGP, the NPF, their officers, agents or privies from using the Parkway Projects Account, described as a private contractor’s account, to conduct any government business pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The interim orders were granted following an ex-parte application filed by one Israel Joe, who was represented by a legal team led by senior lawyer, Kunle Edun.
By the ruling, the Nigeria Police Force’s earlier announcement to resume enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy on January 2, 2026, has been put on hold.
The court further granted an order for substituted service on the respondents through the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, directing that such service be deemed valid.
The interim injunctions will remain in force pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
