Human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has raised doubts about whether winners of the popular Big Brother Naija reality show actually receive the prize money announced at the end of each season.
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Adeyanju questioned the credibility of the prize disbursement, claiming that several past winners appear financially strained after the show.
He wrote:
“Do they really give BBNaija winners the prize money? The reason I am asking is because many of them end up looking extremely broke thereafter.”
Adeyanju’s remarks came less than 24 hours after Imisioluwa Ayanwale (Imisi) was crowned the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 10, walking away with a ₦150 million grand prize, which includes ₦80 million in cash and a brand-new SUV.
The post immediately stirred heated reactions across social media, with many BBNaija fans demanding that Adeyanju name specific former winners who allegedly became broke after their victory. The activist, however, did not provide any names in response.
Observers also recalled that Phyna, the Season 7 winner, had previously accused the show’s organisers of failing to deliver all her promised prizes, a claim that reignited public scrutiny over the reality TV franchise’s transparency.
While the organisers of Big Brother Naija are yet to respond to Adeyanju’s comments, his post has once again fueled discussion about how the show manages its finances and the real benefits that come with winning Nigeria’s most-watched reality competition.
