Comedian and reality television personality DeeOne has called on the Federal Government to launch a comprehensive investigation into the activities and finances of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs operating across Nigeria.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, DeeOne alleged that some NGOs are being used as cover for criminal activities, including the financing of terrorism, kidnapping and human trafficking. He urged authorities to scrutinise NGO accounts and operations to ensure they are lawful and genuinely focused on humanitarian causes.
According to the entertainer, increased oversight is necessary to prevent abuse of the NGO framework, which he claimed has, in some cases, been exploited for personal enrichment at the expense of public safety.
DeeOne further alleged that individuals sometimes establish NGOs immediately after carrying out rescue efforts, only to amass significant wealth shortly after. While acknowledging that organisations are entitled to generate income, he stressed that such earnings must be legitimate and not linked to harm or exploitation.
He called on the government to conduct a thorough and transparent audit of NGO activities nationwide, emphasising the need to protect lives and restore public trust in charitable organisations.
DeeOne’s comments have sparked conversations online about accountability, regulation and transparency within Nigeria’s non-profit sector.
