Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has identified Declan Rice as the most crucial player in Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge this season.
Arsenal, who are chasing their first major trophy in 22 years, continue to rely on Rice’s consistency and leadership in midfield, according to Murphy. The England international, who joined the Gunners from West Ham United for £105 million in 2023, has been an ever-present figure under Mikel Arteta.
Despite the club’s recent summer signings — including Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard from Brentford — Murphy maintains that Rice remains the heartbeat of the team.
“They’re not reliant now on one or two players,” Murphy told reporters.
“I still think Declan Rice is a massive player for them. I know they brought in Christian Norgaard from Brentford who is a good player actually, I like him a lot.
“But Rice has got that physical athleticism, he’s so good on the press. I’m not saying Arsenal wouldn’t win games without him but I think he’s the one, he’s become their main man.”
Arsenal currently sit three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, heading into this weekend’s fixtures. Rice also starred in the Gunners’ 4–0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, providing the assist for Gabriel Magalhaes’ opening goal.
