Afrobeats star Davido has formally discontinued his legal action seeking custody arrangements for his daughter, Imade.
The singer clarified that his application was for joint custody with Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu, not sole custody as widely speculated online.
In statements shared via his social media accounts, Davido explained that he chose to withdraw from the case after what he described as an ethical line being crossed during proceedings.
According to him, the matter escalated when his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, was mentioned during cross-examination. He said the reference was unacceptable and deeply personal.
Davido maintained that he believed he was making progress in securing unrestricted access to his daughter before the development occurred. However, he said invoking his deceased child marked a turning point he could not overlook.
The award-winning artiste also addressed reactions circulating online, rejecting narratives that framed the case’s outcome as a victory for either party. He stressed that custody disputes are sensitive family matters and should not be treated as competitions.
“Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade,” he wrote, urging the public to avoid celebrating or politicising the issue.
Despite stepping back from the legal process, Davido expressed confidence that his daughter would eventually understand his efforts. He said his primary aim was to remain actively involved in her life.
The singer, whose album Timeless further cemented his international profile, concluded his remarks by calling for closure and peace as he moves forward.
