Nigerian music star Davido has revealed plans to steer his career in a new direction, with a stronger emphasis on authentic African sounds.
The Afrobeats sensation made the disclosure during an appearance on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show hosted by Eddie Kadi, where he reflected on his journey and future goals.
Davido said he is satisfied with his international achievements, which include performing at major venues worldwide and earning multiple Grammy nominations in recent years. With those milestones secured, he noted that his focus is now shifting back to music that reflects his cultural roots.
“This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena. I have been to three Grammys in the last three years,” he said. “The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it, so I am not really looking to do Western sounds.”
The singer also spoke about his strong fan base in South Africa, describing the country as one where his music enjoys widespread recognition. According to him, a significant portion of the population is familiar with his work.
He further highlighted a major career milestone—topping South African radio charts with an Afrobeats track. Davido described the achievement as notable, given the dominance of American and local South African music in the country’s airwaves.
His comments signal a renewed commitment to promoting African identity through music, even as Afrobeats continues to gain global prominence.
