Afrobeats heavyweight David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he nearly stepped away from music before the release of his hit track With You featuring Omah Lay.
In a viral interview making rounds online, the singer admitted that he did not expect the song to dominate the charts or become the standout of his latest album.
According to him, the track’s success came at a critical moment when he was questioning whether to continue after more than a decade in the spotlight. He described the impact of the song as a divine turning point that renewed his drive for music.
“Some artists get that kind of song at the start of their careers, others in the middle. For me, 13–14 years in, I was even thinking of bowing out. Then God blessed me with this song. It added more life to my journey,” he said.
Davido, who has built a global fan base and won multiple awards over the years, noted that it is rare for an artist to achieve a fresh breakthrough so deep into their career. He credited the success of With You with giving him renewed energy to keep pushing Afrobeats to greater heights.
