Grammy-nominated singer Davido has opened up about rethinking his political aspirations, highlighting the difficulties celebrities face when moving from entertainment into public office.
In a recent Twitch livestream with streamer Davrel, Davido explained that his successful music career and established legacy have made him cautious about pursuing a political path.
“Before, I wanted to go into politics, but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name, my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky,” he said.
He added that the track record of other entertainers who transitioned into politics has influenced his perspective. “The way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful. I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business,” Davido noted.
The singer’s comments come amid ongoing public speculation about his potential involvement in Nigeria’s political scene, a move that has attracted both support and scrutiny given his prominence in the Afrobeats industry.
Davido’s livestream reflects the growing caution among celebrities considering political careers, as they weigh the risks to their professional reputation, fanbase, and long-term legacy.
