Ebelechukwu Enedah, legal counsel to Sophia Momodu in her custody battle with singer Davido, has issued a pre-action notice demanding N1 billion in damages over alleged harassment, cyberbullying, and defamation.
The demand follows public comments and social media posts attributed to Davido after a court hearing in February, in which he later withdrew his custody petition.
Allegations of Reputational Damage
According to a letter dated February 24, Enedah’s legal team accused Davido of deliberately tarnishing her professional reputation and exposing her to online attacks. The notice describes her as a highly experienced lawyer with over 20 years of post-call experience and asserts that the singer’s actions caused “severe damage to her professional reputation, acute emotional distress, well-founded fear for her own life and the lives of her family members, and tangible harm to her professional practice.”
The letter also highlighted that labeling a lawyer of her standing as “the worst lawyer ever” is a “deliberate and malicious act of reputational destruction,” allegedly prompted solely by her discharge of professional duties in the custody case.
Demands and Legal Warning
Enedah’s team has demanded a public retraction and apology on Davido’s social media platforms and in national newspapers. The notice gives the singer seven days from receipt to comply before legal proceedings are initiated at the High Court of Lagos.
“You are hereby required to issue a clear and unequivocal public statement withdrawing the defamatory statements and offering an unreserved apology to Our Client,” the letter reads.
Background
The pre-action notice comes after Davido accused Enedah of making inappropriate references to his late son during the custody proceedings, which she denied. The dispute reignited debate about professional conduct, freedom of expression, and the limits of public commentary on ongoing legal matters.
As of reporting, Davido has not publicly responded to the allegations or the demands outlined in the notice.
