Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed his plans to break into the film industry, expressing a keen interest in acting and film production.
Speaking during a panel session titled “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film” at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), the singer said he is excited about the idea of collaborating with African filmmakers.
“My brother was saying that he was going to give me a role. I told him I wanted to do a role that would be shot by a taxi driver or something, like something out of the blue. He has to figure that out. So I definitely want to get involved in movies,” Davido said.
The Unavailable crooner explained that his interest in acting comes from a desire to showcase authentic African stories that reflect the continent’s culture and everyday realities.
He also cited international artists such as 50 Cent, who successfully transitioned from music to television and film production, as his source of inspiration.
“I want to produce films that tell our stories the way we live them,” he added, referencing his admiration for series like Uncorked.
Davido’s revelation has stirred excitement among fans, many of whom are eager to see how the multi-award-winning artist will translate his stage charisma to the big screen.
The singer, who continues to expand his influence beyond music, recently completed his “5ive Alive Tour” across Nigeria, and now appears ready to make his mark in Nollywood and African cinema.
