Grammy-nominated singer Davido has opened up about the story behind his hit collaboration with Omah Lay, “With You,” revealing how the partnership started.
In a recent video, Davido explained that the collaboration came about after he reached out to Omah Lay following a tweet in which the singer expressed surprise at being featured on Davido’s livestream with content creator Kai Cenat.
Omah Lay had reportedly believed that Davido “hated” him until the DMW boss played one of his songs during the livestream.
Davido said he was taken aback by the assumption and decided to clear the misunderstanding, which eventually led to their musical collaboration.
“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria, and I was driving him to the club, and then Omah Lay’s song came up,” Davido recalled. “He asked, ‘Who is this?’ I said, ‘Oh! This is Omah Lay, he is hot.’”
The following day, Omah Lay tweeted about the surprise shoutout, prompting Davido to message him directly: “Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.”
The exchange led to both artists sharing numbers and collaborating on multiple tracks. Ultimately, Omah Lay selected “With You” as the song they would release together.
The collaboration has since resonated with fans, showcasing the chemistry between two of Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats stars and highlighting how a simple misunderstanding can turn into a chart-topping hit.
