Nigerian Afrobeats artists have once again made a strong impression on the global music scene, securing major nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The Recording Academy unveiled the full nomination list on Friday evening, spotlighting a number of Nigerian acts in top international categories.
Davido and Omah Lay earned a joint nomination for Best African Music Performance with their hit collaboration “With You.” The same category features Burna Boy’s “Love” and “Gimme Dat” by Ayra Starr and Wizkid, both songs that have dominated streaming charts and resonated with audiences worldwide.
Other contenders in the category include “Hope & Love” by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin, as well as “PUSH 2 START” by South African breakout star Tyla.
Burna Boy, who already boasts a Grammy win, continues his impressive streak with a nomination for Best Global Music Album for his project “No Sign of Weakness.”
He faces competition from international heavyweights including Siddhant Bhatia (“Sounds of Kumbha”), Youssou N’Dour (“Eclairer le monde: Light the World”), Shakti (“Mind Explosion – 50th Anniversary Tour Live”), and the duo Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia (“Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo”).
Also nominated in the same category is “Chapter III: We Return to Light” by Anoushka Shankar, featuring Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar.
The nominations highlight Afrobeats’ growing influence on the global stage, reaffirming Nigeria’s position as a powerhouse in the evolving soundscape of world music.
The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place next year, where global music fans will eagerly watch to see if Nigeria brings home more golden gramophones.
