Afrobeats superstar Davido has tipped Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the leading male artistes who could emerge as the next greatest of all time in Nigeria’s music industry.
The award-winning singer made the remarks during a live appearance on comedian Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream on Wednesday night, where he reflected on the evolving Afrobeats landscape and the new generation driving its global success.
When asked who he believes could take the GOAT title after him, Davido pointed to the trio, citing their consistency, artistry, and international reach.
“Right now, for me, I’d say between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema,” he said. “I think they’ve done exceptionally well.”
Davido clarified that his assessment was limited to male artistes, while acknowledging the impact of female Afrobeats stars such as Tems and Ayra Starr, who have also gained significant global recognition.
“Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr and others, but I’m talking about the males,” he added. “Those three are really killing it.”
The singer went on to praise the trio’s growing influence beyond Nigeria, describing their international success as remarkable.
“Omah Lay is my brother. I have a lot of love for Rema and Asake as well,” Davido said. “They’re all doing amazingly well, especially globally. Being in the U.S. and seeing how far they’ve gone, it’s not easy.”
Debates over who qualifies as Afrobeats’ greatest of all time have remained a recurring topic among fans and industry watchers, particularly as the genre continues its rapid rise on the global music stage.
Davido’s comments have further fueled the conversation, placing Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay firmly at the centre of Afrobeats’ next-generation legacy.
