Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to intensifying military operations against terrorist groups nationwide, assuring Nigerians that the Tinubu administration is investing heavily in modern defence equipment to strengthen the Armed Forces.
Shettima gave the assurance in a condolence message on Monday following the deadly attack on Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, which claimed the lives of both civilians and military personnel.
Expressing grief over the incident, the Vice President extended heartfelt sympathies to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno, and the Nigerian military.
“These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” Shettima said in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
Shettima stressed that President Bola Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces to review and strengthen security operations, including the deployment of advanced hardware, surveillance systems, and drones to dismantle terrorist networks.
He further highlighted the federal government’s consideration of establishing state police, in line with President Tinubu’s position that some security challenges require specialised units familiar with local terrains, cultures, and grassroots dynamics.
Reiterating confidence in the military’s capacity, Shettima assured that Nigeria’s armed forces—equipped with new strategies and technology—would surmount the ongoing security challenges.
The Vice President also offered prayers for the victims’ families and pledged the federal government’s sustained support to Borno State and other regions battling insurgency.
