Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has named Manchester City’s Rodri as the best central midfielder in the Premier League, placing him above Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo, and Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch.
Speaking during an interview, Murphy described the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner as “magnificent,” adding that the Spaniard’s consistency and quality set him apart from his peers.
“Caicedo has been outstanding,” Murphy said. “For me, Gravenberch, Rice and Caicedo come to mind straight away — they all have different attributes. A lot of people say Caicedo doesn’t create or split open a defence, but Gravenberch and Declan can do that a bit more.
“They’ve all got wonderful qualities — tenacious, strong — but as a holding midfielder, I’d still have Gravenberch ahead of Caicedo.
“Rodri, though, is better than all of them. Levels ahead. For two or three seasons, his level has been nothing short of magnificent.”
