Daniel Regha Explains Why Trump Called Nigeria a “Disgraceful Country”
Popular social media commentator, Daniel Regha, has weighed in on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remark describing Nigeria as a “disgraceful country.”
Trump had, in a statement on Saturday, warned that the United States would halt all aid to Nigeria if the government failed to address what he called the “genocide against Christians.” He also hinted that the U.S. might “go into Nigeria” to eliminate terrorists allegedly behind the persecution.
Reacting via his official X handle on Sunday, Regha said Nigeria’s current image as a “disgraced country” is the result of years of poor leadership, corruption, and regional complacency.
“Nigeria is a ‘disgraced country’ today as a result of bad leadership from all regions. Corruption is found in every state and local government, and all ethnicities are involved,” he wrote.
Regha criticized leaders across major ethnic groups, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Urhobo, and others, saying both past and present administrations have failed to confront the nation’s core issues.
He further faulted state governments for what he described as their nonchalant attitude toward solving local problems, accusing them of prioritizing politics over governance.
“Before you shift the blame,” Regha added, “remember that the State House of Assembly has your people in there, and state governance is by indigene.”
Regha’s comments have since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether Trump’s harsh words reflect the country’s current realities.
