Nursing students at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Anambra State protested the sudden hike in tuition at the College of Nursing Sciences. Students say fees jumped from about ₦90,000 to ₦580,000 per session, pushing annual costs close to ₦1 million.
The hospital management says the increase is aimed at improving facilities and academic standards and has promised to meet with student leaders.
Meanwhile, Nigerians are also feeling pressure at the pump as petrol prices surge nationwide amid tensions in the Middle East. Prices have crossed ₦1,000 per litre in several states, with some stations in Lagos selling as high as ₦1,190 per litre.
However, the Dangote refinery has reassured Nigerians that it remains committed to stabilising the country’s energy supply despite global market volatility. The refinery also reportedly cut petrol prices by about ₦100, dropping from ₦1,175 to around ₦1,075 per litre as international oil prices fluctuate.
In politics, the controversy around Daniel Bwala’s viral interview continues to grow. Bwala now claims his appearance on the Head to Head programme hosted by Mehdi Hasan was doctored. Speaking during a live session with Daddy Freeze, he alleged the original interview lasted one hour and nineteen minutes but that an edited 49-minute version was released online, cutting parts of his responses.
Elsewhere, veteran Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi has spoken publicly about the death of her son Raymond Ekwuwho died in 2017 after battling sickle cell disease. Speaking on the The Honest Bunch Podcast, Anunobi alleged that a student doctor mistakenly removed three pints of blood from her son instead of performing a transfusion, raising serious concerns about medical negligence.
In Lagos, Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has launched the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation to support emerging talents in Nigeria’s music industry. The initiative has already selected 100 young creatives for a fully funded four-day training programme in partnership with Berklee College of Music.
