Dangote Cement Plc has officially launched operations at its new cement production plant in Attingué, about 30 kilometres from Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Managing Director of Dangote Cement Ivory Coast, Serge Gbotta, during a ceremony at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory, according to a company statement issued on Sunday.
The plant, which spans 50 hectares, boasts an annual production capacity of 3 million tonnes, making it one of the conglomerate’s largest facilities outside Nigeria.
A Strategic Investment in Regional Growth
With an estimated investment of ₣100 billion CFA, the project underscores Aliko Dangote’s vision of fostering an industrially self-reliant Africa, capable of transforming its raw materials into high-quality finished products.
“This strategic project embodies Aliko Dangote’s vision of building a self-sufficient Africa that is less dependent on imports,” the company said.
The new plant brings to 11 the number of African countries hosting Dangote Cement production units, pushing the group’s total installed capacity across the continent to 55 million tonnes per year.
The firm said the investment will help meet rising demand for construction materials in Ivory Coast, fuelled by rapid urbanisation and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Boost for Local Employment and Industry
According to projections, the Attingué facility is expected to generate more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, benefiting youths, local entrepreneurs, and small businesses in logistics, construction, and retail sectors.
“Our ambition is clear: to offer Ivorians world-class cement, produced locally, at competitive prices,” Gbotta said during the launch.
“The Attingué plant is not just an industrial facility; it is a symbol of confidence in the future of Ivory Coast and our commitment to sustainable development alongside local communities.”
The new Ivorian plant strengthens Dangote Group’s footprint across West and Central Africa, reinforcing its mission to promote intra-African trade, job creation, and sustainable economic growth through local manufacturing.
With the Attingué plant now operational, Dangote Cement continues to play a pivotal role in reducing Africa’s import dependency and supporting infrastructure expansion across the continent.
