The Dallas Cowboys honoured late defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland with heartfelt tributes before securing a 33-16 win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kneeland, 24, was found dead earlier this month following a car crash and a subsequent pursuit by police. The Frisco Police Department in Texas reported that the young athlete appeared to have taken his own life.
Monday night marked the Cowboys’ first game since Kneeland’s passing, following a week 10 bye. Both Cowboys and Raiders players wore shirts featuring Kneeland’s image during pre-game warm-ups, with Raiders jerseys also displaying a suicide prevention helpline number in his memory.
The tribute highlighted the NFL community’s support for mental health awareness while celebrating the life of a promising talent whose loss has been deeply felt.
