Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze has stirred conversation online after advising married Nigerians over the age of 40 to reconsider plans of moving abroad, particularly to the United States and the United Kingdom.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Daddy Freeze said relocation at that stage of life should only be pursued under extreme circumstances.
According to him, couples should weigh their decision carefully and only consider leaving Nigeria if living conditions have become unbearable or if the opportunities overseas significantly outweigh what they currently enjoy at home.
“Unless the suffering in Nigeria is unbearable or the enjoyment promised abroad is much more than anything you can have here, avoid relocating,” he said, adding pointedly: “Avoid America and avoid the UK for now. If you are married, avoid relocating for now.”
Explaining his position, the broadcaster referenced immigration policies in both countries, suggesting that evolving regulations may create complications for families. He noted that some couples who relocate give birth abroad but later face challenges related to citizenship and residency status.
Daddy Freeze also alleged that, in some cases, couples take drastic steps to secure legal papers, including formally divorcing and remarrying for immigration purposes, a move he questioned could place serious strain on relationships.
“How many marriages can survive a divorce and remarriage of the same couple?” he asked during the discussion.
His remarks have since fueled debate on social media, with some agreeing that relocation decisions require careful planning, while others argue that opportunities abroad remain attractive despite policy challenges.
