Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua addresses journalists in Nyeri town on October 12, 2020. He protested against an order by High Court which directed governors eyeing the presidency in 2022 polls to resign six months before polls saying that they will challenge the decision in the court. Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua faced hostile reception at the funeral of former Mbooni MP Joseph Munyau in Makueni County, as sections of the crowd jeered and chanted “one term,” signalling discontent with the government.
The former Machakos governor, who previously led the Maendeleo Chap Chap party before joining Cabinet, also struggled to read President William Ruto’s condolence message. The interruptions prompted presiding Archbishop Timothy Ndambuki to intervene and urge mourners to remain respectful and allow the proceedings to continue.
