The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled October 31 to deliver judgment in a suit seeking to stop the 2025 National Convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over alleged breaches of the party’s constitution.
Justice James Omotosho fixed the date after hearing final arguments from both the plaintiffs and the defendants on Tuesday.
The suit was filed by three aggrieved members of the PDP -Hon. Austin Nwachukwu (Imo State PDP Chairman), Hon. Amah Abraham Nnanna (Abia State PDP Chairman), and Turnah Alabh George (PDP Secretary, South-South).
The plaintiffs are asking the court to halt the planned November 15–16, 2025 National Convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, where new national officers are expected to be elected. They argue that the convention process breaches several provisions of the PDP Constitution and violates internal procedures guiding the party’s administration.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP, and key party officials are listed as defendants in the suit. They include Samuel Anyanwu (National Secretary), Umar Bature (National Organising Secretary), the National Working Committee (NWC), the National Executive Committee (NEC), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, Ali Odefa, and Emmanuel Ogidi.
After adopting all written and oral submissions, Justice Omotosho fixed October 31 for judgment, which will determine whether the PDP can proceed with its 2025 National Convention as scheduled.
