Soroti grade one magistrate Sarah Nantongo has directed the family of the late Dr Godfrey Egwau to produce an authentic death certificate to formally confirm his passing.
Magistrate Nantongo ordered that the family submit the official certificate by December 10, 2025, noting that the LC I letter they previously presented was insufficient.
Under the law, when an accused person dies before a final judgment is delivered, the criminal case is typically dismissed, extinguishing both criminal and civil liability.
Egwau died on November 23, 2025, at the Kampala Cancer Institute. He had been facing charges of medical malpractice in connection with the death of his patient, Emmia Lucy Aluka, who died during childbirth.
