The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has affirmed the legality of the 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), upholding the outcome of the party’s leadership election held during the convention.
The convention, which took place on November 15, 2025, was validated in a judgment delivered by Justice Ladiran Akintola in Suit No. I/1336/2025. The court confirmed both the convention and the elections conducted during the event, dismissing objections raised against the process.
In his ruling, Justice Akintola held that the convention was conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2022, and other relevant electoral regulations.
The judgment was delivered in favour of claimant Folahan Malomo Adelabi, who successfully secured all 13 reliefs sought through his counsel, Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN).
The court affirmed the emergence of the National Working Committee led by Kabiru Turaki as the legitimate National Chairman of the PDP, thereby validating the party’s leadership structure established at the convention.
Separate motions seeking a stay of execution and suspension of the ruling, filed by Sunday Ibrahim (SAN) on behalf of Austin Nwachukwu and two other parties, were dismissed for lacking merit. An earlier application seeking to join the proceedings was also rejected.
The ruling effectively resolves the longstanding internal disputes surrounding the convention and confirms the legality of the PDP’s leadership transition under Turaki’s chairmanship.
